Some Cities and Villages to discover...

I will not speak of Seville, Granada or Cordoba. These 3 cities are obviously worth visiting but you already knew that ... Each of them is located about 2h15 by road from our apartment. I can only encourage you to visit them !

Below I will tell you about some other towns closer to the apartment (1h15 maximum drive).

Its landscape therefore varies between the most steep and spectacular area of the region represented by the "Pico de Los Reales" and the cultivated lowlands of the Valley of Guadiaro with their fields of cereals, passing through a small stretch of coast.

The village, declared a Historico-Artistic ensemble, is considered one of the most beautiful in Spain. If tradition is to be believed, its origin dates back to Roman times when Julius Caesar had it built to express his gratitude since he had taken care of himself by bathing in the Baths of the Hedionda, the current urban wall is however of Arab origin.

Ronda

The small town of Ronda rises in the Andalusian sierra, at 740 m on a cliff falling into the Rio Guadalevin, cut in two by a vertiginous ravine.

Among the oldest cities in Spain, this beautiful Andalusian has captured the hearts of several generations of travelers, including Hemingway or Orson Welles.

Ronda has superb historical monuments, such as El Puente Nuevo, a three-arched bridge from the 18th century. It was also at this time, in 1785, that the arenas, the oldest in the country, were built. the September feria is one of the most popular in Spain.

Jerez De La Frontera

Few places in Spain enjoy as much international recognition as Jerez. Thanks to its wine - the “jerez” or “sherry” -, the equestrian and bullfighting tradition, flamenco and motors, the name of this Andalusian city has long since crossed borders.

The Alcázar de Jerez is undoubtedly the most important vestige of al-Andalus. Inside the ramparts are the Mezquita, the Arab Baths and the Garden of Olives, with ponds and fountains perfectly fitting the Baroque palace of Villavicencio, erected on the ruins of the old Islamic palace and whose tower houses the original "Cámara Oscura".

The city has many and precious evidence of Gothic construction. In the district of Santiago, cradle of the bulería, is the church of Santiago, from the 15th century, where you can see the statue of "Nuestro Padre Jesús del Prendimiento", attributed to the Roldana.

The Conventual Church of Santo Domingo and the Church of San Marcos are also good examples of this style.

If you really want to get to know Jerez and its people, there is nothing better than a good stroll through Larga Street, the commercial and nerve center of the city. This is where the pulse of the city beats, where the best shops are concentrated and many terraces to have a drink and taste delicious “tapitas jerezanas”.

Malaga

Malaga is full of wonders to visit. It’s difficult to list them all, but below you will find the must-see places when visiting Malaga.

- The Picasso Museum contains more than 200 works by the artist born in Malaga.

- Gibralfaro Castle was built in the 14th century to house the troops defending the Alcazaba, to which it is attached via a passage between the walls. After the reconquista, it was used to keep the vanquished in detention, and then it served as residence for Fernando the Catholic.

- The Alcazaba of Malaga (fortress) located next to Gibralfaro Castle, is the most important witness to Malaga's Muslim past. Its construction was ordered by the king of the taifa of Granada Badis Ben Habús from the 11th century (prior to the Alhambra of Granada).

- Malaga Cathedral is one of the 10 most popular monuments in Spain. It is found on the remains of what was once the city's main mosque during Muslim times.
